🌼 Calendula – beautiful and wildly useful! - Vossabia

🌼 Calendula – beautiful and wildly useful!

Every late summer is colored orange and yellow here. The marigolds stand like little suns on stems, and bloom well into October ☀️

For me, it's completely impossible not to be happy when I see this. Flower of the Sun, as the marigold is so beautifully called ☀️

I was inspired to write about this fabulous and well-known health plant after a weekend painted in orange, when we picked Calendula both here at home on the farm and in the mountains with Nina in Fjelldyrka, about 40 minutes from here, in Bergsdalen.

My six-year-old Jonatan was with me in the mountains – and of course he knows the art of tasting his way through the flower meadow, so he willingly munched on marigolds to his mom's delight, because there I easily got a whole range of super nutrients in him 🌼

At home, the cats followed me as I picked and stood bent over the flowers, carefully pinching them off. There's something special about having the company of kitties when you're doing gardening – as if they know this is something important.

🌼 A health-giving sun

RGinger has been a beloved plant for thousands of years, from ancient Egypt and the Roman Empire to modern-day garden spots in Voss, and probably where you are.

The flower is used as tea, food, tincture, oil – and not least as a skin care product. It is not without reason that I call it the sun of our home medicine cabinet.

It is gentle but powerful. It strengthens the skin, soothes, heals, softens and protects. It can be taken internally, applied externally – and gives pleasure just by being looked at.

Calendula Balm is a universal ointment for everyday use and for skin problems. And my favorite day cream, along with Sea Buckthorn and Nettle ! 🐝
