During Vossabia's 20 years, I have met a huge number of people who struggle with psoriasis. Many have stretched out their hands and arms at the market, despairing, and often resigned, asking if I have anything that can help 🙏 And it is this external symptom relief that is most needed in the first place. If you are affected, you need to apply something that will reduce the discomfort and relieve the pain. Because psoriasis is complex and complicated, and a holistic treatment would start with external relief first, before looking at targeted internal treatment and lifestyle changes to get to grips with which processes are affecting your psoriasis exactly 💆♀️
Fortunately, Vossabia has for 20 years relieved many of their terrible psoriasis symptoms, and made everyday life much better. And we want to share that here. In addition, there are of course some tips about herbs to use in your everyday life that can help and support psoriasis, for both external and internal use 💚🌿
My good friend Wenche 👇 has had tremendous help from Chamomile Balm and several other Vossabia products for her severe psoriasis problems, and she keeps saying that Vossabia has saved her 💚
The skin and psoriasis – briefly explained
Functions of the skin:
👉 The skin is the body's largest organ (approx. 2 m²).
👉 It functions as an immunological barrier, excretory organ (gets rid of waste) and thermoregulator (regulates body temperature).
👉 The skin consists of three layers:
· Epidermis: Outer, water-resistant layer.
· Dermis: Contains blood vessels, sweat glands, nerve endings and hair follicles.
· Subcutis: Contains fatty tissue that insulates and is hormonally active.
Psoriasis and keratinocytes:
👉 Psoriasis forms flakes/plaques consisting of keratinocytes, cells that normally protect and make the skin waterproof. 👉 In healthy skin, it takes 28 days for keratinocytes to mature and flake off, but in psoriasis this happens in just 3–4 days. 👉 Immature keratinocytes form plaques that bleed easily and do not act as an effective barrier, leading to itching, irritation and soreness.
Inflammatory cycle:
👉 Psoriasis creates a vicious cycle of skin and systemic inflammation. 👉 Pro-inflammatory cytokines (chemical messengers) activate immune cells that lead to abnormal growth of keratinocytes and more inflammatory reactions, which exacerbates the problem. So what are our super ointments that have helped so many with psoriasis? 🐝
💛 Chamomile balm
First of all, I must mention Chamomile balm ! I have been touched by it so many times after people have told me what has happened in terms of relief and improvement. Even more touching is when I feel that the little green box actually affects the lives of individuals to such an extent that it increases everyday joy and self-esteem 💚 by removing discomfort that I thought would perhaps never go away. Wow, that is so fantastic! 🤩 About 17 years ago, I first received the news of a man who had received a decision from NAV to cover a larger amount per year for Chamomile Balsam, when his dermatologist saw that it was what worked best for his ailments 🫶 I was completely shocked when he calmly and sanely told me about this, this elderly man from Hardanger. I just said: oh, this is actually big! 😱 It's a bit of a pain to get it, I said. Sure, he said, but then I need the receipts, can you send them to me? Haha, calm down Hardanger!
There have been many such stories, and Chamomile Balm never ceases to impress. Chamomile is, as is well known, very soothing, which is important for psoriasis. However, there are many more properties of chamomile that make our green goodness a go-to for psoriasis.
How Chamomile Balm can work on psoriasis: 👉 Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory: Chamomile balm can reduce inflammation and protect the skin from infections. 👉 Soothing and healing: Chamomile can reduce itching, relieve pain, and promote faster healing of sore skin. 👉 The chamomile plant also has a nutritional composition that can help specifically with the typical symptoms of psoriasis: · Carotene: Smoothes the skin. · Essential oils: Have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial effects. · Alcohols (e.g. choline): Forms a protective film on the skin and counteracts irritation, and supports the skin's healing process. · Flavonoids: Protects the skin from external influences. · Salicylic acid: Has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties.
Chamomile balm can therefore reduce psoriasis symptoms, but also help to rebuild the skin's natural balance and protect against external stress 💛
🌼 Calendula Balm
Calendula Balm contains the wound-healing bright orange flower, which I picked today at exactly 500 meters above sea level from one of my new collaborators, Nina.
Calendula Balm I have also received a lot of feedback on itchy, troublesome psoriasis 🌼 The marigold itself has been used for hundreds of years for its power and healing abilities. In addition, the flower is most used and known for its soothing and especially wound-healing properties 🩹 The recipe for quick wound healing, and with less scarring than you might think! 🧡 And when it comes to psoriasis, it is these healing and anti-inflammatory properties that help. In addition, our Calendula Balm MASS Calendula in various forms, as well as the wonderful lavender 🪻 Lavender is a plant typically mentioned in herbal medicine for psoriasis.
💚 Body balm
Wild Herb Body Balm contains some chamomile, which immediately makes it interesting for psoriasis, as many reviews show. It also contains red clover, St. John's wort and yarrow, all of which are herbs known to be good for eczema and psoriasis ❤️🩹
🌿 Shampoo
Last, but certainly not least: SHAMPOO WITH WILD HERBS !! So, all those scalps that have gotten better around the country!! 💚 I am incredibly happy that the shampoo has helped so many, and it has only been pouring in with feedback regarding psoriasis on the scalp for many years. All the herbs are good for eczema and psoriasis, but nettle in the shampoo is super good! It can relieve psoriasis well, but why is that? 🤔 Yes, because nutritious herbs that are very mineral-rich, like nettle, are important because the accelerated production of keratinocytes that occurs in psoriasis requires a high mineral intake and can thus drain the body's mineral reserves. At the same time, nettle supports the lymphatic system.
So in addition to using Vossbia shampoo, I wanted to make nettle tea ☕️ Also include marigolds and dandelion leaves, which are similarly rich in minerals and good for the lymph.
💡☕️ Tea made from good herbs is actually one of the tips I wanted to give today. Tea made from peppermint, rosemary, sage, lavender, chamomile and lemon balm are some tips that can support the body and relieve psoriasis. The chaga mushroom is also something to use! It has shown good results in psoriasis in several studies 🙌
Use herbs that help reduce itching, as these also often help with inflammation and promote healing. Chamomile, peppermint, hollyhocks, and lavender are good options. Calendula in tea is also recommended because of its wound healing effect, as well as Calendula can restore the cellular process to a more appropriate cycle. Calendula is also a lymphatic stimulant and helps the body eliminate waste.
Nettle is a good idea to use both in shampoo and in tea and food if you are suffering from psoriasis.
💡 Another tip is to make an herbal water, i.e. cooled tea, and keep it in a spray bottle when the psoriasis outbreak causes active, oozing sores. Then an herbal water can work better than an ointment, as the water-based herbal spray will have an immediate cooling and itching-relieving effect 😮💨 When that phase is over, and it's not oozing, just apply the recommended products 😉🐝
There is of course much more to say about psoriasis, but the most important thing is to start the external relief, and then start looking at the whole thing that affects it through lifestyle, other illnesses if any, mental health, diet, external influences at work, etc. 😔
I will definitely give the tips I can, and hope that more people will find herbal relief after following these tips! 🙏🫶💚🐝
