The day before there was a storm, wind and pouring rain – and I was out in the oil fields, picking juniper and making the most wonderful steam afterwards for a wonderfully spontaneous day spa 💨 🌿
Yes, This is how autumn is – whimsical, vibrant and full of contrasts. One day warm and soft, the next fresh and wild.
And the body notices it: a little sniffle, a sore throat, maybe a stuffy nose.
But luckily – nature has everything we need. to find balance, warmth and strength.
🌿 Juniper and breath in the storm 🌎
We went for a walk in the wind to see the big waves out there with the sea crashing against rocky rocks and cliffs.
It shook us hard, but the fascination with the wave power was so great that we sat for a while – and I got quite cold.
On the way back to the cabin, I picked some juniper twigs with a delicious day spa in mind. After all, what could be better after a cold hike than a warming and stimulating juniper steam?
I cooked up a good batch of juniper twigs after the trip – and when it simmered and boiled and released a little steam from the pan… well: just breathing in the scent is like letting nature into your body. And THAT scent filled the cabin!
Steam ritual from picking to steaming!
Oak I sat with the boiling steam in front of me, overlooking the sea where the waves were still pounding the rocks and rocks, and leaned over the juniper fence and closed myself in with a towel over me.
And breathe. Deep. Warm and windy. You just have to try it too! I was alone for a little while there, haha.
Create an autumn ritual with juniper ✨
Pick Bring some twigs with you too. Boil water, add your juniper twigs, let it boil for 20 minutes. Sit with the juniper in front of you, and hold your face over the steam with a towel over your head.
Sit like this and breathe for as long as you feel it makes you feel good. No other rules.
It opens the airways, relieves sinus pressure, and provides a calm that only nature's own oils can provide. A simple, powerful ritual for fall days when you need to warm up, wind down, and relax.

It's time to take a little extra care of both your skin and your health 💚 The cold is creeping in and giving many people some skin challenges.
We need to strengthen the skin barrier in a different way than in the summer, and cold, dry weather is most noticeable on the fingers and face, and it quickly leads to stuffy noses and irritating coughs.
It's time for more good tips on how nature and herbs can support us through the cold season.

💛 A small pharmacy of natural warmth, gathered in a beautiful and environmentally friendly network.
🍯 Herbal honey – nature's sweetest medicine
When I feel something is going on in my throat or body, I apply Panther Balm to my neck and forehead, and then it becomes an immune-boosting mixed tincture with Calendula , chamomile, yarrow and sea buckthorn to have in the water glass.
I managed to quell a nascent cold with this a couple of weeks ago!
When viruses are rampant, there's an incredible amount you can do yourself – and it doesn't have to be complicated.
Did you know that Vossabia sold Honey with Rose Root before?
Here are some of my favorites from the herbal pharmacy on the kitchen counter:
🍯 Honey and garlic – nature's antibiotic and my big favorite!
Chop 4–5 cloves of garlic, stir into a 250 ml glass of honey and let steep. Take 1 teaspoon three times a day – great for sinus problems and coughs.
🍯 Rose root tea - energy and immune defense on glass
Rhodiola rosea provides strength, calmness and energy – perfect when the body needs to recover. Mix 1 glass of honey with 3–4 teaspoons of finely chopped raw rhizome, and enjoy as tea, or straight from the spoon.
🍯 Fire Honey – warm, strong and anti-inflammatory
Mix honey with organic ginger, cayenne, black pepper, turmeric and cinnamon – a power combo that will warm you right up to your fingertips 🔥
☕️ Tea that soothes – straight from the kitchen counter
With autumn comes a cough. So tiring and annoying.
There are several herbs that can help with coughs, including yarrow and licorice root, but thyme stands out as both soothing and incredibly effective – a true cough hero!
Most people have dried thyme in their spice cabinet, but haven't thought about using it for more than just pizza.
Thyme is actually one of nature's super herbs for the respiratory tract, rich in essential oils such as thymol and carvacrol – powerful substances that kill both bacteria and viruses, and help the body get rid of mucus.
💚 Why use thyme for colds and coughs:
- Dissolves sticky mucus and relieves both dry and phlegmy coughs
- Soothing and soothing for irritated mucous membranes
- Has an antibacterial and antiviral effect – perfect for colds and bronchitis
- Stimulates mild sweating and fever response, so that the body gets rid of waste products and returns to balance more quickly
A simple cup of thyme can work surprisingly well for both adults and children.
If you want more powerful help when your lungs need it, you can also make a tincture of thyme, or use a steam bath with a few sprigs or a drop of essential oil in the water – it opens the airways naturally.
Tea with thyme and flower honey from Vossabia
🫖 Thyme for cough:
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme per cup of hot water
- Let steep for 10 minutes under a lid.
- Feel free to add honey and a little lemon before drinking.
💨 For a cough with mucus: lubricate your chest with Panterbalsam at the same time - the combination is worth its weight in gold!
NB: Thyme is safe and mild, but essential oil should always be mixed with vegetable oil before applying to the skin – and should never be taken internally.
🖤 Panther balm – the black box that saves the day and night!
I just have to mention this again when we're talking about colds and stuffy noses. Because Panther balm has been my lifesaver for 21 years now.
After many years of chronic sinusitis and large amounts of nasal spray, I developed Panterbalsam for me and my needs in 2004 - and now many thousands have discovered how effective it is.
I carry this with me everywhere, always, and most recently today at a meeting in town it came in handy when I willingly shared it with someone who had a stuffy nose.
Panther balm has been a "lifesaver" for me and many of my clients!
💚 Application
✔️ Apply under the nose or inside the nasal walls – breathe freely!
✔️ On the chest and back when coughing
✔️ On the sinuses for pressure and pain
✔️ On temples, forehead and neck for headaches
✔️ On stiff shoulders and muscles after long days in the workshop
It's full of peppermint, eucalyptus, camphor and rosemary – good herbs the body needs to open up and soothe.
And as many of you have discovered: it also works wonderfully for cold sores on the lips, and under and inside the nose.
🧴 Feel free to combine with Calendula Balm and Lavender - or Mint lips – perfect for irritated skin, sore noses and chapped lips.
🌙 An autumn greeting from the Queen Bee
This time of year always reminds me of how closely we are woven together with nature.
I know how the herbs, scents and rituals bring peace – and how a little honey, a cup of tea and Panther Balm applied here and there can be small, magical acts for both body and soul.
And not least the healing power of going for a walk. Søren Kierkegaard said it perfectly, as did many other philosophers before him, and which became such a nice reminder on a sign by a gate to a path:
Nature is ready to take care of you and me, isn't it wonderful? 🌿 💚
Warm autumn hug,
Renate, Queen bee in Vossabia 🐝
