👉 Eczema (atopic dermatitis) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition that makes the skin red, itchy, and irritated. Common symptoms of eczema include:
· Dry, inflamed, thick, cracked or scaly skin
Itching
· Sagging or crusted skin
Small, raised bumps (which may leak fluid when scratched)
Swollen skin (often from itching)
· Leathery skin patches (lichenification)
Eczema outbreaks often occur in periods, and can be triggered by artificially scented soaps and perfumes, bath products, cosmetics, detergents, as well as natural substances such as lemon, baking soda, and vinegar.
Lifestyle can also influence: stress, frequent hand washing, poor nutrition and low humidity (such as seasonal changes in weather, dry air or indoor heating) can also lead to outbreaks.)
For Olav, it is clear that it is mostly external influences from his work as a farmer that give him eczema. There is a lot in the air inside the barn that affects his skin. In addition, being a farmer is quite intense, and stress is not exactly uncommon 😅 So there we have the typical combination of external and internal influences, which shows in the skin. In addition, at the time he ate some foods that were not good for him, and that also affects our skin to a large extent.
And there are many like Olav! According to the Asthma and Allergy Association, about 20% of Norwegian children have atopic eczema, and 7-10% of adults! And there are probably large hidden figures! 😣 There are many people who experience itching, irritation, pain, discomfort and who have their everyday life, general health and well-being, sexual health and relationship challenges affected by eczema 😞
🥹 I now want to share how so many people have received simple help with several of our plant- and beeswax-based products, which have provided rapid relief and healing anywhere on the skin and body, from inside the ears to the genitals, and everything in between 💚🙌 The goal is for more people to get quick, natural, healthy and good help, and maybe it can help both their skin and mood! ✨
Beeswax = gold! 🌟
🐝 Beeswax has been known for its antimicrobial properties since ancient times, and modern research shows that it still has much to offer.
Beeswax and the skin microbiome
Research shows that beeswax can fight a range of bacteria, including common causes of infections such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. Although propolis from bees has a stronger effect, beeswax is more readily available and still effective against more types of bacteria and fungi 🙌 Combinations of beeswax with other natural ingredients such as honey and herbal oils have been shown to be very effective against various skin infections.
Beeswax as a skin barrier
Beeswax acts as an excellent skin protector by forming a film on the skin that prevents moisture loss 💦 Studies show that skin products with beeswax are superior to regular barrier creams in reducing skin irritation and maintaining skin integrity. This makes beeswax an ideal ingredient to protect and soothe irritated skin 🤩
Using beeswax for eczema and psoriasis
Research shows that beeswax can help relieve symptoms of atopic dermatitis (eczema) and psoriasis 💛 Beeswax helps restore the skin's moisture barrier and reduce inflammation, which provides a noticeable improvement in skin condition. In combination with honey and herbs, beeswax has been shown to be particularly effective, and even reduces the need for cortisone creams. Recently, we have seen an incredible number of examples in the last 20 years, where customers have reported that they were able to stop using cortisone, as Vossabia products are more effective and give better results for many 😄
We replace the wax panels in the hives as an important animal welfare measure that we do as beekeepers. Frequent replacement of wax panels ensures good hygiene for the bees and is a disease prevention 😊
5 GREAT HERBS for eczema and to repair skin inflammation
👉 Tips for using chamomile at home for eczema:
Chamomile tea bag compress: Steep a chamomile tea bag in boiling water for 5 minutes. Let it cool to room temperature before placing it on your eczema flare-up. Leave the tea bag on the eczema spot for 20 minutes. You can use up to 3 compresses daily until the flare-up is under control.
❀ Yarrow is also fabulous for eczema, and a very exciting plant historically, as it has been a valuable ingredient in herbal medicine for thousands of years. Yarrow is known for its skin healing properties, as well as its anti-inflammatory and astringent effects, which are important when it comes to eczema. Yarrow is both revitalizing and soothing, and was an obvious choice when I was making the recipe for Body balm. In fact, I'm on my way out to pick more yarrow in the mountains now that I've finished writing. Because here we need lots and lots throughout the year, as we process it into a tincture before it, with deep respect, is included in Wild Herb Body Balm. Yarrow also does good things for the scalp and plays well with the other herbs in The shampoo our.
🌼 St. John's wort is a powerful ally in relieving almost all common eczema symptoms. In Body balm I have combined St. John's wort with yarrow and red clover from the garden, and fantastic chamomile oil as well. So talk about a combo! And when it comes to St. John's wort and eczema: a study from 2003 showed that daily application of a cream with St. John's wort twice a day for a month significantly improved eczema outbreaks in patients. St. John's wort is rich in antioxidants called flavonoids, and the plant has anti-inflammatory, soothing and moisturizing properties that relieve painful, red, cracked or dry and itchy skin, while strengthening the skin barrier. St. John's wort also accelerates the wound healing process, so that damaged skin heals faster. The antiviral properties of St. John's wort help keep open wounds clean during the healing process and prevent infections.
🌿 Nettle is also your friend if you have eczema! Nettle offers anti-inflammatory and antihistamine benefits that can reduce inflammation, redness, itching, dry skin and allergic reactions that contribute to eczema outbreaks. This plant that many see as a weed is actually very valuable: it is rich in antioxidants that increase cell renewal, repair the moisture barrier and aid in wound healing. Nettle is also high in vitamin C, a nutrient that is crucial for the skin's barrier function and collagen production. Vitamin C acts as an antihistamine that is known to support skin health and control inflammation or irritating allergens. Adequate intake of vitamin C has also been shown to reduce eczema symptoms.
👉 How to use nettle:
· Topical use: Apply skin products with nettle directly to the skin to relieve eczema symptoms, for example, try our wonderful Sea Buckthorn and Nettle , and for scalp eczema try Lemongrass hair serum (can also be used on the skin) and Vossabia shampoo which has lots of nettle.
· Dietary supplement: Nettle can also be taken as a supplement to improve skin health from the inside.
· Tea: Drink nettle tea to help reduce eczema outbreaks.
· Natural compress: Moisten nettle leaves and apply them directly to the skin as a natural remedy for eczema.

👩🌾 Before I go out into the sun to pick the sun-hungry yarrow, I hope these were tips that can help and motivate you to use natural remedies and measures for eczema and psoriasis. There is a fantastic pharmacy out there, and with knowledge-based natural products for skin and hair, it is certainly very good to know that many people with irritating and painful skin conditions have benefited and enjoyed using Vossabia on their skin 🥰💛
It is especially important to avoid foods that can worsen eczema when you already have a flare-up. Common foods that can trigger eczema include:
· Milk/dairy products
· Halibut flour
· Soy product
· Nuts
· Eggs
· Fish
Sugar
· Food additives
The best thing is of course always to cook from scratch, and in any case, make sure that most of what you eat is made from raw materials and not heavily processed ingredients.
