There's always a lot of fun happening here on the farm, and now, finally, there will be a body soap that many have been asking about. A real forest soap ! 🧼 🌲Here we have juniper straight from our forest, and then combined with wonderful organic essential oils of pine and eucalyptus, with a lovely fresh citrus on top.
We're celebrating by giving away an absolutely gorgeous travel set with HERBAL SHAMPOO and FOREST SOAP to everyone who orders over 600 NOK in the online store next week.
👉👉 Write SKOG in the message/note for orders over 600 and we'll put two of these beauties in the package🎁.
They are perfect to take with you on trips and travels, short or long! Here they were at training sessions, at lecture days on Karmøy, a swimming competition in Nordfjordeid and in my good husband's backpack on a trip to Copenhagen with friends this weekend.
AND: it all started when the Myrkdalen hotel in Voss wanted shampoo and body soap for the hotel rooms! How incredibly great that a local tourism company wants to collaborate with other businesses in the area, and at the same time show that they want to use locally sourced, handmade and ethical products 😊👍
It is sustainability in many ways, and a green initiative that is good for the skin, hair and health of both guests at the hotel and the environment and nature where the rinse water ultimately ends up ♻️💚 Kudos to Myrkdalen Hotel!
🌲🌿The forest on your body!
It's so nice just to think about it, that I actually get the forest on my body with every wash. And those scents of both Norwegian trees and more distant forests with all their power and fragrance (eucalyptus in mine and the panda's heart).
But, I've been so slow on it, but I finally got the kick I needed, with demand from both customers and Myrkdalen Hotel! So thank you for that 🙏
So after pondering the recipe and choosing plants that would be best for the skin and body, we headed up here in the forest on skis, with pruning shears and a sack, and we pinched off some of the wonderful juniper that grows here for long stretches! Then there was boiling juniper leaves, and then enjoying and feeling not only wonderful scents filling the room, but also historical sizzle and buzz😊💫. Juniper is one of the most used plants in Norway in folk medicine, and juniper leaves have been boiled for hundreds of years here in this country, for so many incredible reasons. Some boiled juniper to brew beer (like my great-grandfather Brynjulv did here on the farm), and others to make compresses for gout, or juniper leaves boiled for hair washing or for bath water because of all its exciting ingredients. Or for steaming for colds and coughs, among other things, but juniper has been used for everything from driving away evil spirits, sprinkling on floors in homes and morgues to freshen the air, for snuff and cooking, and for washing and cleaning vessels and cups! Antiseptic, cleansing, stimulating content makes juniper great for a huge number of uses, AND it grows right outside here!
It actually grows up to 1700 m above sea level in Jotunheimen⛰️, and has been known for more than 3000 years as a medicinal plant, something that has been written about by Chinese philosophers, the ancient Egyptian Papyrus Ebers mentions juniper as a medicinal plant, and so did ancient physicians and natural scientists such as Hippocrates. I think it's crazy exciting when you think about it! How people have used the same plants around the world for an enormously long time, since ancient times, long before any communication between people or continents. 🤔 No one could google juniper and get everything about this and other plants straight away. Yet they found out much the same thing, and were able to benefit from both juniper and thousands of other plants' properties and contents. I bow in the dust!
❄️ Winter and now late winter is a time when most of nature is dormant, and we people feel it too. The need to take it a little more slowly, a little thought and reflection sets in, and it does good to say a little together instead of sprinting around. But, not all nature is resting now! That's definitely not the case with juniper! It gives and gives all year round, and it's so wonderful! Because it's ready when we need it most. On your walk in the forest and the woods, break off some branches with you, or pick some blue juniper berries and use them! It invigorates, lifts the mind and mood (actually🤩) and you can only enjoy all the ways it can be used and how it fills you with positive things.
There are other wonderful things to harvest from nature at this time of year, and all year round: Pine, spruce and not least the beard of old birches! Or strylifen (usnea in Latin), as it is called. I put it in alcohol and have it as an important part of my medicine cabinet. A powerful antibiotic from nature, without side effects, and especially good for the respiratory tract! A little tip there! Then the forest walk will have meaning again💚🌲
But, today's news:
Now it's not just the amazing 🌿💚SHAMPOO with WILD HERBS that cleanses and washes you, but also 🌲🛀THE FOREST ON YOUR BODY ! It's so light and delicious, incredibly thick, and wonderfully orange from the juniper, AND the incredibly delicious scents of the forest! Clean and fresh with this!
