There are some really cool and enterprising guys in Tromsø who have managed to create this wildly popular dog snack . I visited them last year, and I was impressed by these enterprising, dog-crazy guys who are passionate about giving dogs super healthy, local and Norwegian ingredient-based treats . And they have succeeded!!

Here on the farm we love Alfreds for many reasons:

There's something very special about how caring we are when it comes to our animals 🐶💛
We read ingredient lists carefully – and want to give them the best, both inside and out.

Therefore, healthy treats 🐟, natural nutrition and safe skincare are much more closely linked than many people think.

And that's perhaps why so many pet owners use Vossabia on their dogs too 🌿🐝

We get so much feedback from happy customers who use our products on their animals – with great results. There are even pet stores that sell Vossabia, including our trusted retailer Acela Dog and Cat .

And yes: there are – not surprisingly, the big favorites with people, which are favorites with animals too: Calendula Balm , Chamomile Balm , Cold Cream – and the gentle herbal shampoo .

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
"Love these products"
I have two dogs with itching and dandruff, which have gotten a lot better with the shampoo from here. So it's not just two-legged dogs that benefit from these
- Lone B.

Many dog owners are unsure about what is safe to apply:

  • wounds and irritation
  • itching and rash
  • dry paws
  • skin folds, eczema and inflammation

I understand that very well.
That's why I'm so grateful for all those who have shared their experiences over the years – because they show that simple, pure and familiar herbs are often what dogs' skin tolerates best 💚

👉 🌼 Two herbs every dog owner should know 🐶

There are many good plants and herbs for dogs and other animals (see more tips below).
But when we look at what really works for dog skin over time , we keep coming back to the same, safe herbs:

CHAMOMILE and Calendula 🌼

They are classics in the Vossabia universe because they are so versatile, powerful – and at the same time gentle and well tolerated, even by sensitive dogs.

Having these in your pet's first aid kit is a really good investment in safe natural care 🐾💚

🌼 Chamomile – for calm, balance and relief

Chamomile is gentle but powerful – and a favorite for sensitive dogs.

Chamomile is:

  • soothing
  • anti-inflammatory
  • sedative
  • skin tonic

Therefore, chamomile is often used for itching, rashes, moist skin folds, sore skin – and body discomfort.

Many dog owners use chamomile as:

  • Iced tea for upset stomach or general discomfort
  • rinse or compress for itching and irritation
  • and last but not least: externally in the form of our effective Chamomile Balm

🌼 Calendula – meet nature's super-healer

Calendula , also called calendula , is known for its many properties, a true universal plant. However, what it is particularly well known for is rapid wound healing.

It is great at, among other things:

  • wounds and skin lesions
  • insect bite
  • cracked skin
  • irritation and eczema

Calendula Supports the skin's own repair process , calms inflammation and protects against unwanted bacterial growth .

For oozing wounds, Calendula tea is good as a cleanser.
When it comes to healing your skin Calendula Balm is absolutely amazing 🌼 And I even got some new knowledge from a customer the other day that shows that Calendula Balm not only works great for sore nipples on nursing human mothers:

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I used Calendula Balm on my dog when she had puppies and got sore breasts. It worked great.

🐑 Lanolin – comes from sheep, but perfect for other animals too!

Lanolin is the sheep's own protection against weather and wind 🐑
It always makes me think of my grandmother and her sheep 💛 I was with her in the mountains so many times – she would call the sheep, and they would come running from the hills and slopes and come close to us. The feel of my childish hands deep inside the warm wool… and how soft my hands became from the protective lanolin.

Lanolin is a fatty substance that resembles the skin's own, and therefore penetrates deeply and does the job where the skin needs it most:

  • bind moisture
  • softens and protects
  • supports wounds and cracked skin
  • perfect for animals that are often outside in the weather

In dogs (and other animals), lanolin is often used for:

  • cracked paw pads
  • dry skin
  • hard skin areas exposed to pressure and bedsores on TD Albogar
  • dry, scaly ear flaps
  • sore and irritated skin behind (anal area)

That's why lanolin is an important ingredient in several Vossabia products – and now also in our brand new paw and skin ointment 👇

Paw & Care was created after years of feedback from people who have used Calendula Balm , Chamomile Balm and Cold Cream on animals – with very good experiences.

Many have asked for a special ointment for animals, and our new Paw & Care is designed to support the skin's own repair when animal skin is dry, sore or unbalanced.
This is an ointment that we believe many pet owners will greatly enjoy in their everyday lives as we have focused on:

🐾 collect the safest, most proven herbs

🐾 combine them with lanolin, shea butter and beeswax for extra protection against salt, cold, moisture and bacteria

🐾 calms skin that needs time to repair itself

🐾 create a salve that is pure, rich and uncompromising

🐾 no essential oils! So it's 100% safe for cats too 🐈

The result is a truly luxurious pet ointment – developed for animals, and delicious on people too.

Please send us a message about what you and your dog think – I have tried to think of everything to give your pet's skin the best, most thoughtful natural care 💚

Check us out on Instagram! We've created a "Your Trip Story" here. When you click on it, you can post your own picture and show how you use Vossabia on your animal 😻

ℹ️ Extra tip: When your stomach is rumbling – gentle herbal advice

Chamomile : cooled chamomile tea, a little in food/water for anxiety or upset stomach

Fennel : mild tea from seeds (cooled) for flatulence and bloating

Peppermint : finely chopped fresh mint or weak tea for cramps
⚠️ not essential oil

Ginger : a small pinch in food for nausea/rumbling
(avoid if bleeding problems/surgery)

Parsley : finely chopped over food – can support intestinal health and fresh breath

🦷 Dental health – an important part of overall dog health

When it comes to overall dog health, this is an area that is easy to forget, but which means an incredible amount over time 👇

🦷 Poor oral hygiene can affect the rest of the body for dogs, just as it can for humans.

I am a little extra passionate about this as I was married into a fine dental family in Bergen – the Barman family – where the grandfather of my children, Emil and Ylva, Dr. Rolf Barman, developed both Dr. Barman's toothbrush for people AND a toothbrush for dogs .

Uncle Ole Barman took the idea of the dog toothbrush further and for many years has run Petosan, which produces fabulously good dog toothbrushes in Bergen.

If you like simple, natural solutions, you can make a lot yourself – even for your dog 🐶🌿 Here are two gentle recipes that many people use as a supplement to brushing their teeth:

Tips for homemade herbal toothpaste for your dog:

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley leaves
  • 1 tsp fresh mint leaves
  • 1 cup hot water

Finely chop the herbs, pour over freshly boiled water and steep for 20 minutes.
Strain and cool. Use as a rinse when brushing your dog's teeth.

Make your own dog toothpaste with coconut and turmeric

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons coconut oil
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder

Mix to a paste. Apply a thin layer to a toothbrush or finger.
Gently brush your teeth and also massage along the gums to prevent and reduce inflammation.

💚 When you want to do a little extra for your dog

🐾 Joint and body care with power!

Do you also cook stock for your family from chicken or beef bones? Give some cooled stock to your dog too – it's great for joints and it's packed with important nutrients that boost your overall health.

🌿 Restless or anxious dog? Try giving calming herbal tea:

  • 1 tsp chamomile (dried)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon balm
  • 1 teaspoon lavender
  • 1 cup hot water

Steep for 10 minutes, strain and cool.

Give small amounts of these calming herbs at a time.

💚 Thank you for taking such good care of your pooch.
