NETTLE 💚 The super herb that gives strength to hair, skin, body and soul
For me, nettle is not just an ingredient – it is food, medicine, hair care, skin care and natural strength in one leaf 💚
I love nettles so much that I am actually moved every spring when the first dark green sprouts push their way up from the ground around our yard. Powerful, wild and full of life and strength. A true pioneer plant that grows where the soil is rich, alive and full of nutrients.
By the way, have you noticed that they are purple under the leaves now that there have been so many cold nights? That only makes them even more raw! And even more medicinal! Check out our Instagram video about the purple nettles!

That much of the strongest and most valuable in nature requires us to come a little closer, and that we have the strength and courage to look past the uncomfortable.
Because behind the sting is hidden one of the most nutritious and powerful plants we have. And you can work on the technique when picking, so there won't be so much sting after all 😉
Make friends with the nettle, I say 💚

And today there was a good group of Vossabia people out on old trails at the edge of the forest here, with baskets and gloves, picking nettles for Vossabia's popular shampoo and Thornwood and Nettle 😁🌱

Now it's really NETTLE TIME here on the farm...
Nowadays, we harvest this super plant almost daily (when the weather is nice!). It's actually pure meditation to go outside, bent over, picking nettle shoots after nettle shoots, and smell the very own nettle scent that fills the air while the cats run around us and try to be a part of everything that happens.
Now in season, the nettles are picked right outside the yard and go fresh directly into the production of our extremely popular Wild Herb Shampoo 💚
The nettle is simmered for quite a long time, so that we can extract the valuable vitamins and minerals that can strengthen both hair and scalp. The shampoo base is simply a powerful herbal decoction that people really notice a difference from.

WHY IS BRENNESLE SO AWESOME?
Nettle contains large amounts of:
🌱 minerals
🌱 vitamins
🌱 antioxidants
🌱 chlorophyll
🌱 plant substance that strengthens skin and hair
🌱 and natural anti-inflammatory properties
In fact, stinging nettle consists of around 20% minerals – which is quite extreme in the plant world. We are talking about a good content of iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium and the particularly interesting SILICON! 💚
It's the super mineral for skin and hair, which really contributes to strength, elasticity and structure. And if you've tried our Wild Herb Shampoo, you've noticed it!

Natural glow – from the inside and out ✨
Because this superherb works both inside and out:
💚 in tea (drink nettle as often as you can)
💚 in food (make the world's best pesto with
nettle, and add it to your smoothie!)
💚 in tincture (safe antioxidants and anti-allergic properties)
💚 in skincare (have you tried our new favorite Tindved and Nesle?)
💚 and in hair care (the shampoo with a capital S thanks to nettle and horsetail!)
Nettle is full of antioxidants that can help the skin protect itself from stress, inflammation, and early signs of aging.

And it's fantastic for sensitive and irritated skin.
Nettle can:
✨ calm redness and irritation
✨ contribute to balanced sebum production
✨ be great for impure skin and acne
✨ support the skin barrier
✨ gives glow and elasticity
It's no wonder people have become completely hooked on nettle in skincare internationally in recent years. Nettle skin products have become really trendy and popular in the US and England in recent years.
But for me, it's not about trends. It's about connecting with nature, and using what humans have known and used for not just many generations, but thousands of years.
I want more people to discover this nettle powerhouse, as humans have done long before us!

How to get nettle into your body and skin 🌱
The great thing is that the stinging properties of nettle disappear when boiled/scalded, dried, crushed, and otherwise processed. You are then left with all the amazing nutrients and health benefits – ready to use in food, drinks, skin care, and hair care.
So now I hope you'll want to become a little better friends with nettles 😁
Below you will find several simple and delicious ways to use this super herb at home – from tea and pesto to tincture and super powder 🌱🐝

Nettle tea
2. Rinse them lightly, and then boil a pot of water.
3. When this boils, turn off the heat, add the nettles, and let it steep for 5 to 10 minutes. Feel free to mix in other herbs such as red clover, meadowsweet, mint, rose, or other favorites that grow where you are.
4. Strain, add a little honey for sweetness, and voila, you have a wonderfully delicious nettle tea!
If you want a tea that gives you extra strength and is a real spring cleaning classic, you can take equal parts nettle, birch leaves, and dandelion leaves.

Tincture
2. Then add alcohol (around 60%) until everything is covered. Let it steep for a month.
Now all the health benefits of nettle have been released into the spirit. Put one to two teaspoons (30-40 drops) of this in a glass of water every day (or three times a day if needed) and you have an easy way to get your daily dose of nettle!

Pesto
- 1 liter of fresh shoots of nettle and coltsfoot (I use ¾ nettle and ¼ coltsfoot, but here you can just play with the amounts)
- 1 dl cashews or walnuts, pine nuts (experiment and vary)
- juice from half a lemon
- 3 cloves of garlic
- 1 dl olive oil
- 50 gr parmesan cheese or similar Norwegian cheese
- season to taste with salt and pepper
Pick and rinse the nettles, put everything in the blender and blend! If you want/need more olive oil, adjust accordingly.
Enjoy!

Nettle powder
1. Pick nettles, spread them out on a sheet or tablecloth and let them dry slowly for a few days.
2. Take some dried nettles in the blender and whizz away!
3. Voila! Nettle powder! Store in an airtight and dark box, and use in smoothies, porridge, soup, the broth, yes, your imagination is the limit here. We're talking super powder!
