Today I want to pay tribute to all 6 of them 💋 Because they represent both the start of Vossabia's skincare range, what drove all of our carefully developed products, and the final branch on our Vossabia tree for now.

We celebrate by highlighting the lips in many ways 💫 I want to show that they are all created with my own developed recipes carefully combined for effect and consistency. They have more uses than for the lips, and each has a background in a personal story. Together they form a wonderful Lip family that fits perfectly together.

Here comes the tribute, in honor of Vossabia Lip Balms. Our first skin product. Created by a strong driving force and desire to showcase the incredible cycle that bees and flowers are such an important part of. And the raw materials that are the result of that cycle. Beeswax is the hero here! The protective and magically nourishing raw material 💪🏻 OMG!
Vossabia's skincare series started with bees, honey and beeswax... and lips 💛🐝
Before Vossabia became natural skin care, I sold honey as a hobby. At markets until 2003, we had “only” sold Raspberry Honey, Heather Honey, Whiskey Honey and Rosehip Honey 🍯 But gradually I felt a strong need to showcase more of the wonderful things bees create – not just the sweet, but also what builds and protects: namely beeswax.
In 2003, when I got pregnant with Emil, I almost felt pregnant with something more than just a baby 💛
I felt a strong need to create – this time something for the skin and body. Food from the outside in and out. At the same time, I went on a vocational beekeeping course and really started to immerse myself in all the wonderful things bees make. I didn't just want to use the resources – I wanted to understand them. And pass them on.
And that's when I really discovered beeswax.
Because it's almost unbelievable how it's made.

Young bees eat large quantities of honey – the flowers’ solar energy collected into liquid gold – and inside their tiny bodies a transformation takes place. Small wax shells are formed, which the bees shape with precision into perfect hexagonal cells. Their home. Their warehouse. Their nursery.
When I realized this, I just sat there gaping.
Because beeswax is not just an ingredient – it is the very building block of life in the hive. Created from flowers, honey and cooperation.
And as a beekeeper, you get to be a small part of this interaction.
We regularly replace parts of the wax to keep the bees healthy, it is an important disease prevention and hygiene measure - and at the same time we give the honeybees the opportunity to build new ones, as they were created for and which increases their animal welfare. And it was precisely this beeswax that the bees have used in their life cycle... I had a strong feeling that I had to use it for something more.
When I realized this, I just sat there gaping.

So I started studying more, I took courses, and I experimented. I wanted to create something that actually worked – something that provided nourishment, protection, and real care. 100% natural and organic.
And this is how the first lip balms were created:
Lavender lips and Mint lips .
Simple. Pure. Carefully formulated with good plant ingredients along with moisturizing and protective beeswax from our own bees.
It wasn't just my solution to dry and chapped lips – after years of using lip products that only made things worse. "Everyone" was using paraffin-based lip products (and cosmetics in general), so many felt the big difference and the quick effect.
And this is how the first lip balms were created:

The two small products started a demand from far and wide. And with that kick in the back, I got the development going in 2004. No stress, Emil slept 3 hours at a time during the day, so mom had time for more than just being a new mom 😅
Very fun, and now it's incredibly funny to think back that it was these two little things for the lips that made Vossabia's entire skincare line a reality!

Then, 12 years later, the first colored lipstick arrived! Huldrelippers ❤️
The Huldra in me wanted forest and a little deep but discreet glow on the lips. I wanted that slightly mysterious, deep – but still soft and natural expression. I wanted a lip that felt like forest. Like earth and peace.
With spruce and a hint of purple glow, Huldrelepper was born. And it quickly became clear that I wasn't alone in longing for Huldrelepper.
When my dear sister Noha from Cairo came to visit, she was completely hooked. No matter if we were in the city, in the mountains or at home – Huldrelepper had to be worn.
And that's how it has been for many:

The following year, Ylva's lips arrived 💗
Ylva was 9 years old at the time – and it was definitely not me who decided that we had to have pink lip balm 😄
Vetlajento wanted his own. A really pink one.
And so it was.
Of course, the forest theme had to be continued, so it was pine essential oil – soft, fresh and natural. Absolutely perfect for my mini-sister.
What was so nice was how she put it to use right away.
